Can you stand the heat in the kitchen?
The Food Standards Agency in Northern Ireland (FSANI) has produced The Survival Guide to Food for 6th form students, to help equip them with the skills to eat well and be well when they leave home for the first time. At Down High we offer pupils in year 13 and 14 the opportunity to attend 10-15 week courses which follow The Survival Guide to Food.
Pupils will recieve their own copy of the guide which contains lots of useful information on making healthy food choices, shopping and budgeting tips as well as good hygiene information. The Guide is packed full of healthy, easy to follow recipes, the guide also includes interesting food facts and tips on what to eat when studying. the funky design along with the clearly defined sections provides a student-friendly approach to increasing interest in food and nutrition.
Pupils will have the opportunity to test their cooking skills on trying out a number of recipes from the guide during the enrichment programme.
